Sports injuries happen, and sometimes you can’t avoid them – but at other times, you definitely can.

The cooler autumn is a common time for major sport events, such as marathons or triathlons. If you’re considering one of these events, make sure you’re ready. Many people end up injured every year because they haven’t done enough to prepare themselves.

Even if you’re an aspiring athlete, and have lofty goals and a vigorous training plan, you may want to consider getting IV injections for athletes to keep your body ready.

Also, you can watch the video below for more tips to preventing sports injuries, or have a read.

How To Prevent Sports Injuries

Every year I see several people who have pushed way past their limits. As a result, I thought it would be good to do an article to highlight it.

I’m also a bit of an athlete in my own right. For example, I take part in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. It’s a 250 km bike ride to Niagara Falls from Toronto to raise money for cancer.

It’s important to be mindful, going into an intense activity, or one that requires a lot of endurance.

Below are three quick tips that athletes and medical professionals alike recommend. I would know – I’m both.

1. Stretching

Interestingly, there’s a difference between stretching and warming up, though some confuse the two.

They’re different, and the fact is that you need them both.

Stretching is when you hold a position of a muscle, in its lengthened state, for about 20 seconds.

Warming up means getting the big muscles moving, getting the heart pumping, and preparing your body for the real exertion to come.

Many people think that stretching before is important. That’s true, but more and more research is recommending stretching afterward for better results.

But warming up is still important before starting an activity. Toss both into the mix for best results.

2. Know Your Limits

A critical part of preventing injury is knowing your limits.

A lot of us sit all week long and then do power-workouts on the weekends to make up for all that inactivity.

You’ll want to gradually increase your training, both over time and over the course of your weekend.

For instance, if you haven’t gone for a run all week, don’t start with a half marathon first thing on Saturday morning.

Build up over the course of the week with a series of smaller workouts that keeps your body flexible and strong. That way, you can handle your big weekend workout more easily.

3. Use The Proper Equipment

When it comes to equipment, you’ll want to be sure you do your research, because this is another important factor.

Part of equipment includes the right clothing and footwear – so be sure to have the right size for you.

Another consideration is whether you may need an orthotic or some other accommodation. For example, if you tend to pronate when you run, you can find shoes that discourage that movement.

If you’re a biker, you’ll want to get the handle bars and seat at the right height for you, so you don’t hurt your back or neck.

Sports equipment can be expensive, but it’s a real investment in your enjoyment. After all, uncomfortable or ill-fitting gear can make your life miserable.

4. Take Supplements

Lastly, I recommend certain supplements. Not only can these help you perform better, they can also target the issues, aches and pains associated with physical exertion.

For instance:

Magnesium is great for muscle spasms.
• Glucosamine can help lubricate joints
• Use arnica topically for bruises and muscle stiffness
• Proteozymes, which are enzymes that break down protein, are great anti-inflammatories

There are other supplements that can help you prepare you for your event and boost your performance. Talk to your naturopath to find out more.
